References
to the VampChron

When something becomes big, popular, or even just well known, it's used for comedic effect in other productions. The Vampire Chronicles (most notably Interview with the Vampire the movie) are not above this. Due to a fascination of mine in hearing the vampires referenced, I've decided to make this page for The Raven. Now you can go out and rent/see these and know the joy of getting a joke the non-VC fans don't.

If there's one that I've missed (and I'm sure there are a lot!) please don't hesitate to e-mail me and let me know. I want this list to be complete so help is much appreciated! (Pretty soon, we may have a section just for Buffy & Angel, since so many seem to come from there!)

Contributions made thus far by: Danielle, Phoenix Dru, Brigdh, and Jay. Many thanks!

Can't Hardly Wait

The band, Loveburger, is fighting. The lead singer, who is wearing a frilly shirt and blue 19th century overcoat, tells the drummer something like "Whatever, Hootie!" and the camera pans away to a fire starting on a near by curtain. The drummer retorts, "Yeah, well you look like Lestat!"

First Wives' Club

There's a wedding scene of someone's ex-husband (I don't really remember this one), and as he walks down the isle, Bette Milder says, "Look, it's the Vampire Lestat. And Louis." She pronounces Louis with the "s" rather than the French form (pronounced "Louie").

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV)

1. Spike is talking to Angel, who's a mopey, wannabe Louis-esque vampire. Spikes response to him is quite simple: "People still fall for that Anne Rice routine? What a world!" Click to hear it!

2. In the "Buffy vs. Dracula" episode, Buffy encounters Dracula in the cemetary. This is the dialogue (so I'm told):

Buffy: "So let me get this straight. You're... Dracula, the guy, the Count?"
Dracula: "I am."
Buffy: "And you're sure this isn't just some fanboy thing? 'Cause I've fought more than a couple pimply, overweight vamps that called themselves Lestat."

Angel

I don't watch this show, but here is what Brigdh told me happened in one episode this season:

Shemp Vampire: We're a lonely sort, we creatures of the night. Doomed to walk the earth, that kinda deal.
Darla: How long have you been...
Shemp Vampire: An eternal child of darkness? Since, uh, '92.
Darla: Nineteen ninety two?
Shemp Vampire: Hard to believe it's already "last century."
Darla: Well, isn't it true that some vampires choose a mortal -- someone they can sire, someone who too can walk those lonely nights, hunting with them...feeding with them...joining with them...
Shemp Vampire: Ha! No. That'd be weird.
Darla: "Weird?!" It's mythic!
Shemp Vampire: No, you been readin' too much Anne Rice, lady. You got no idea how this thing works.

John Carpenter's Vampires

The vampire hunter guy makes a comment to his collegue about how vampires are not men who prance around in frilly outfits. I don't remember the exact quote, but I assume it was a reference to IwtV.

Bowfinger

Jay sent in this report and since I've never seen this movie, I'll just put it in his words:
Near the last forty minutes or so, the character that Steve Martin plays finds that he no longer has access to the movie camera that he needs to make his movie ( THey were not allowed to make it the right from the beginning). He then informs his cameraman that, "Did you know that Tom Cruise didn't know that he was in that vampire movie until two years later?" I thought that was pretty clever.

More to come! There are some I can't quite remember.. I'll add those as soon as I recall what they were.
